Exploring an Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Guiding a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and gamers have found numerous engaging independent titles. Yet, one is particularly notable for its unconventional concept. Named Unko Technica, this retro-inspired platformer lets you play a character that is actually a turd trying to navigate to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" means "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: press a jump control. In numerous stages, encounter mini-bosses and visit a store to acquire outfits for your dung hero.

Time your movements precisely, as a wrong move requires starting over. Bounce off floating orbs to launch your character to new heights, navigate fragile platforms, and interact with switches to unlock hidden paths. Gather coins and use them on challenging game content as gameplay intensifies.

Visually, the game features neon environments and an amazing soundtrack. Its minimalist visual style with moving geometric shapes evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Although hard to name previous releases where you control a dung character, video games have long included toilet humor. For example, in Death Stranding, players craft throwables from character excrement. Games like Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize dung as fertilizer. Unsurprisingly, fecal references is present extensively in Obsidian's South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its silly premise, Unko Technica has already earned notable awards, like being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. A playable preview is available now on Steam, with the complete version scheduled to launch on PC this November.
